Providing Quality Education
Matheny Sears is a longtime supporter of the Cristo Rey Network of high schools, which delivers a career-focused, college preparatory education for students with limited economic resources. The firm is proud to have supported Cristo Rey Sacramento since 2007, contributing nearly $1M and hosting 134 students through work-study programs in that time. In addition to supporting students who go on to four-year universities, the firm has hired a number of students after graduation to develop their careers in the legal field.
Matheny Sears also regularly sponsors numerous events to help provide funds for the Cristo Rey Network’s scholarship program, such as Cristo Rey High School’s Annual Crab Feed. All proceeds from the Crab Feed benefit the school’s athletic program.
The firm’s dedication to helping students receive a quality education has also led to its annual sponsorship of the Bob Moretti Memorial Golf Tournament. Bob Moretti was a former Speaker of the California State Assembly and the tournament held in his honor funds scholarships to college students associated with the Capitol.
Supporting Inclusion & Diversity
Matheny Sears believes in supporting programs benefiting women and children. Our team is a longtime contributor to The Ronald McDonald House Charities and have proudly sponsored the Women Lawyers of Sacramento’s ArtFest, which funded grants benefitting local charities and scholarships for law students. The firm also sponsored a team for the Susan G. Komen Sacramento Race for the Cure. In addition, the firm makes regular contributions that provide services to battered women.
The firm has also served as a children’s sponsor at the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children) Lawyers Helping Kids fundraising event. CASA is an organization that provides many services to children in the court system, including giving them a voice in the courtroom and an advocate for their best interests.
Our Global Reach
Matheny Sears’ dedication to improving the lives of persons in need extends beyond the local community. The firm is a proud supporter of Lamp for Haiti. Founded in 2006, Lamp for Haiti is a not-for-profit organization that delivers health care and humanitarian assistance to the community of Bwa Nèf in Citè Soleil, Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Bwa Nèf is one of the poorest communities in the Western Hemisphere and Lamp for Haiti provides Bwa Nèf’s citizens with necessary medical care and tools to improve their quality of life so that they may become self-sustaining. Lamp for Haiti currently cares for more than 13,000 persons a year and hopes to eventually expand its operations to other parts of Haiti.
